Is THIS the secret to a happy marriage?

I am a little stunned to say the least by this story about stay at home wives who have no kids. They say it is the latest "status symbol" for the husband to bring home enough money so the wife can go about enjoying life...or something.

This is the post-feminist world? Sure it is swell if you can swing this lifestyle but I question the wisdom here.

Traditionalists may crave the idea of the wife at home with dinner every night. Some women may want freedom to enjoy personal interests. The key here is that they are not trying to build a family. That changes the financial landscape considerably.

Let's say I become a bestselling author with money to burn. I don't know if I'd force my wife to work but if she is not living up to her full potential and have something meaningful to talk about . . . She better be spending her days picking out lingerie and practicing gymnastics in high heels on a trampoline because I have a VERY short attention span.

Hey JP,

Tried emailing, but your email address changed, so google brought me here. My advice would've been, send to both agents! And twelve others. If they don't like it, well, then they don't like it. And if they do like it, they're not going to decide to not ask you for more--

Unsolicited advice, but that's what you get for having a blog with comments! My email address is changing, but not until August 12th (if you want to email me after that, use the email associated with my blogger account). Basically, I was writing to ask how your novel was coming along, and if you thought it was ready for me to read. I'm kind of eager to see what happened in the later chapters. Let me know.

I dont care about her potential.
I care about her making me happy.

I lived with a woman for a long time and when she came home from work I wish she had just stayed home and was sunning herself.... she was much more happy and my life was much brighter when she was not working as hard..........
but it just isnt possible in this day and age.

if I make a bizillion dollars Im getting a trophy wife

I feel ashamed to admit this, but this sounds like my idea of heaven. Imagine being with a the partner of your dreams... I could make him breakfast in the morning, wave him off to work. Go gym, read the papers and do some housework then start preparing dinner.*sigh* I was born in the wrong era.

A happy marriage takes both people working together with a common goal. Both should be encouraging the other.

Flame and Bone

When I was made from fire
Poured into the tender vessel of caution
That keeps my smoke from rising
Quickly did I discover that apart from crisp drizzles or falling snow
The world chilled my touched
Walking the narrow cornered gap between girders and cut stone
One learns to tuck his shoulders in or risk
Jostling a neighbor passing by rapt with want
For a clear path without the distraction
Of another man's boiling eyes
The tip of a finger
That oldest of all weapons
Grown deadlier and pristine in its invention
Gathers a mote of a cinder on its bare flesh
And turns pondering how best to scratch the impious itch
Prying open the tender seam
Where the oil of thought dews
Offering a new wick to ignite
Squirming alive as a salamander of mischief
That yearns for a taste of air it is so ready to devour
The steam of breath betrays me
Before the glint of orange spreads
In popping bright waves
Eroding the fibers feeding it
Leaving naught but ash
As my shell of quietude falls away
